Sakana Japanese Dining

SAKANA is a Japanese restaurant operated at the Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The client is an Edo-style sushi chef who has trained for 20 years in Japan and overseas. The renovation project serves as an alternative casual dining experience for large groups in contrast to our previously designed restaurant, HIBIKI which was constructed in 2018 and is operated by the same client.
The plot is situated in the corner area of the mall entrance, allowing for two different entry points. A bar counter for drink orders was placed in the mall side entrance.
Near the bar counter is a 1.2 by 3 meter raw edge wood table top which serves as a focal point and creates an open space.
For the furniture, locally sourced Nyatoh wood with a dark lacquer finish was used in contrast with light colored white ash wood. The counter top utilized a quartz finish to match the light colored wood material.
A patterned cement finish was utilized evoke the image of a Japanese styled rammed earth wall. To contrast the rough finish of the cement, smooth travertine panels were used for the exterior walls. With the newly renovated restaurant, we hope people of Malaysia will have a great Japanese dining experience.

クアラルンプールのペトロナスツインタワーの一階路面にデザインした和食レストラン。
クライアントは、日本で20年、その後海外をめぐり修業した江戸前の寿司職人。2018年に弊社でデザインした寿司屋「HIBIKI」と同じクライアントによって運営されていているが、HIBIKIのクローズドな感じとは違い、今回は多くの人が入りやすい空間を目指した。サイトはショッピングモールの入り口の角にあり、外部に面したエントランス部と施設内の2箇所に入り口を儲けている。モール側の入り口には、飲み物の注文の為のお客様にスペースを提供するためのバーカウンターが設置されている。 横には1200*3000もの大きな無垢一枚もののマレーシアの国産ニャトー材のライブエッジのテーブルがスペースのポイントとして設置されており、オープンな空間を感じさせる。
家具にも淡い色のホワイトアッシュ材とは対照的に、マレーシア国産ニャトー材を使用。カウンタートップは、淡い色の木材と合わせてクォーツを使用した。
壁面はトラバーチンと共に、版築のイメージを基にした左官で仕上げ、左官仕上げの土の動きある質感と、トラバーチンの滑らかな質感を対比させた。
マレーシアで多くの人に日本料理を楽しんでもらえる場になればと考えている。
